Here is an overview of a few of the cell phones I have used.
The technology is evolving so fast, and new cell phone are coming out it seems daily. But, I will try and get my hands on cell phones and try them the best I can. Then share them here on this web-site.

Nokia N82

The Nokia N82 is one of the phones I took with me to CES 2009. The Nokia N82 can be found at nokiausa.com or costco.com. One of the first features that got my attention was the 5 megapixel camera built into this phone. The phone uses the frequency WCDMA2100 (HSDPA), EGSM900, GSM850/1800/1900 MHz (EGPRS). The Nokia N82 also has built in 802.11 b/g. I'm using this phone as a pay-as-you-go phone through AT&T. If you find a wi-fi connection you can surf the web without paying a fee per/kilobyte. This phone is easy to use when it comes to taking pictures. Just open the lens cover and it switches to camera mode. As with most camera phones, using the phone in bright conditions to take a picture is best. The flash does an adequate job in low lighting. Taking a picture and uploading to Flickr or e-mailing to a friend is easy. Video capture is also available for those short moments you want to capture. The Nokia N82 also features an FM tuner built in as well. This phone came with cables to connect to the USB port of your computer as well as video-out cable to attach to your television. For a fun multimedia cell phone that takes great pictures you may want to check out the Nokia N82.

iPhone 3G

The iPhone 3G has most of the same features as the first iPhone. The iPhone 3G is found at AT&T or Apple. The first added benefit is the iPhone 3G uses AT&T 3G network so the phone is faster. The 3G has the same icons on the home screen. GPS is now added to the "Maps" icon so you can see where you are at. There is now an "Application" icon for purchasing applications for the iPhone 3G. There is finally an AIM application, that works pretty good. It would be nicer if you could use that application in landscape mode. When surfing the internet it's now possible to tap on a photo and save the photo to your photo gallery. The 2.0 megapixel camera is nice, but it would be nice if you could send MMS instead of just to an e-mail. Still, the features of the iPhone 3G are great. I surf the web, read my e-mail, and listen to the iPod the most on my iPhone 3G. I'm sure that I will download some applications and put the iPhone 3G to greater use.

iPhone

The Apple iPhone is a great phone. You just have to make sure you have the current version of iTunes to activate the iPhone. Receiving any firmware updates is through iTunes. The SMS feature works great. When you are using SMS it saves the message as though you are using an instant messaging service. The iPhone has a Calendar and Calculator, and also a Notes section for typing out any to-do ideas or a grocery list. The camera is 1.3 megapixel but it takes pretty good pictures. YouTube is installed on the main screen and with just a tap and you can view Featured, Most Viewed or Search. There is a Stocks section for keeping track of your portfolio. The Maps section is not GPS but you can see where you if you are lost or type in, for example, "Starbucks" and it'll give you the location and phone number of the nearest Starbucks in the area. The Weather section is fun as well. I have about 10 cities on there and just slide my finger across the screen to scroll to the next city to see what the temperature is. The Clock section is the same. You can keep track of your local time or times of different cities around the world. There is a Settings section for setting all your settings. Then down at the bottom they have four buttons. The Phone, Mail, Safari, and iPod. The Phone section works well. Just slide your finger and tap a person you want to call and tap the number and it will call that number. The Mail section works great. I have had upto 11 e-mails that have all gone to my iPhone. Yahoo mail, Gmail, AOL mail, and Comcast Mail all get delivered. So, whatever you mail client is, I'm sure it'll work. Now the Safari is what I find really amazing. The iPhone has a full working version of Apples OS X operating system on there. So when I am looking at web pages, it is like I am on my desktop or laptop computer. The iPod section works great as well. Before the 1.1.1 update I would open up iTunes and buy songs on iTunes and sync them to the iPhone. I can still do that, but now with the iTunes WiFi, I can find songs as long as I am using WiFi and not on the AT&T EDGE network and purchase songs on iTunes. The next time I sync the iPhone to the computer the songs that I purchased via WiFi are added to my library on the computer. So, in all I give the iPhone high marks. Yes I can log onto AIM using a 3rd party on Safari. But that is the one thing I wish they would add is iChat. So, if you get a chance to try out an iPhone, please do. I think you'll like it as much as I do.

Samsung Blackjack

The Samsung Blackjack has been out for a while but it is a great phone. This phone is a 3G phone from AT&T. The Blackjack uses Windows Mobile 5. This phone is for business and pleasure. It has an MP3 player and you can even get streaming music from XM radio. The Blackjack also has the MusicID function where you can hold the phone upto a speaker of a song playing and the MusicID will analyze the song and then you can read on the phone what song it is. That is free for the first few times and then there is a fee to use it. The camera does pretty good as well. Best to use the camera in good lighting conditions and also I found that there is a glare on the screen which makes it difficult to see what you are trying to take a picture of, so be aware of that. The keyboard is kind of small but okay as long as you don't have to type something to long. The Blackjack has a cool feature to try to help people just use one thumb for typing. When typing a text message or need to add a number you just hold down the key that has a number and then the number will be added. That is so you do not have to use a shift key. The Samsung Blackjack has external memory card slot as well. This phone is nice if you are traveling and want pass some time and wish to view a few videos on the used to be Cingular Video. You can get push e-mail sent to your phone as well. It also has the AIM, MSN Messenger, and Yahoo Messenger loaded on the phone. I found that on AIM it was okay for chatting with one person but the with this mobile version toggling back and forth between two or more people can be a pain. So check out Cingular, which is now the new AT&T for more information on this phone. Kind of plain looking, but is pretty powerful and functional cell phone.

Sidekick3

The Danger which uses the name Hiptop and then sold through T-Mobile as the Sidekick3 is till a great device for communicating. The Sidekick3 had some upgrades from the SidekickII. There is a SDmemory card slot for saving MP3s on the added MP3 player, as well as photos on the 1.3 megapixel camera. You can still surf the web and the upgraded the Sidekick3 to the EDGE network so that is a little faster than the SidekickII. When the Sidekick3 was released it did not have the MyFavs capabilities, but there was Danger OTA v3.4 update that made it possible for the Sidekick3 to have MyFavs for the people that want to use that. The Sidekick3 has AIM, Yahoo Messenger and MSN Messenger installed for those who need to chat with their friends and family using one of those instant messaging platforms. Besides your tmail.com e-mail address you can have 3 more e-mail addresses pushed to your Sidekick3. One downfall that some people have complained about is that you cannot send MMS messages to other phones. Most people can get around that by just e-mailing pictures. So, the Sidekick3 is still the best device for instant messaging and texting. A great device for keeping in touch. The camera works best in lighted conditions, but still not to bad for taking quick pictures. Also take a look at the Sidekick iD which is out also. The Sidekick iD does not have a MP3 player or camera or external memory card. It is just for making calls and sending and receiving text messaging and instant messaging and web browsing. But not on the EDGE network for some reason. But the Sidekick iD is only like $99 with a contract and marketed for people that may not have enough for a Sidekick3. So, check out T-Mobile to see if the Sidekick3 or the Sidekick iD is something for you.

Sony Ericsson W600i

The W600i is available through Cingular. The main reason I am using this cell phone is because of the 1.3 megapixel camera. It's small and people may not realize it's a phone until after you swivel the screen to expose the dial-pad. There is 256 MB of memory for sharing between photos taken or downloading music on the built in MP3 player. You can decide if you want to use more of the memory for photos or for music. The W600i also has an FM radio, with the headphones acting as the antenna. You can play some trial version games that are pre-installed on the phone or purchase them. You can play the games in landscape on the screen when the dial-pad is swiveled closed. The W600i is purchased with a bright orange faceplate, or you can use the darkblue faceplate that comes in the box. After taking a picture it's easy to send a MMS to an e-mail address. It's a quad band phone so you can use the phone if you travel outside the USA. This is a good cell phone for downloading some MP3's (with the CD software included) but you may get tired of swapping out songs if you get tired of listening to the same ones. Especially if you take alot of pictures as well, since this phone has a fixed memory. But in all a good phone to have some fun with and make a few phone calls.

SidekickII

Danger is the manufacturer but it is marketed as the the Sidekick, and now the SidekickII. You can only use it with a plan through T-Mobile. The SidekickII is very easy to use. It's a GPRS device and is the ultimate if you love to text message and use instant messaging using either AOL Instant Messenger, or Yahoo Instant Messenger. Yes it's a phone, but you can have an e-mail like "name@tmail.com" that you can send and receive right from your Sidekick. It has an address book, web browser, so you can see your T-Mobile bill at anytime, or Google, or check a price on E-Bay. Very handy for doing a quick search of something. The SidekickII has a camera with a flash, but the quality to me is the best when outside in the sunlight. There is also a calendar, to-do list, place for notes, and a game called "Rock&Rockets". The thing I like is that as soon as you enter information on your device. You can go online using a desktop or laptop and log into your account and see the changes by clicking onto the desktop interface button. You can edit information there and it will change on your SidekickII automatically. So, if you love to text message and instant message with friends and family, you may want to look into the SidekickII.
